Chris Brown In Trouble With The Law
It would seem Chris Brown the villain of the Hip Hop/ R&B world has landed himself in hot water yet again. This time it is over some actual monkey business. It would seem the star purchased a pet monkey and quickly boasted about it on social media. The singer posted two pictures of his new pet, one with his daughter and one with the monkey and some shoes. The problem you may ask? The problem is as simple as paperwork. He has failed to obtain the necessary paperwork required to own an exotic animal. Charged with having a restricted species without a permit; a misdemeanor charge that could carry up to 6 months in jail.
Previous Legal Troubles
In 2009 Chris Brown was arrested for assaulting ex-girlfriend and hip hop goddess Rihanna. This was the first and highest profile arrest. Brown punched and even chocked and kicked his then girlfriend and ended up pleading guilty to felony assault.
From 2011 to present Brown has continued to be volatile and unpredictable. The singer has found himself in trouble for throwing a chair through a dressing room window, getting into fights with both hip hop artist Drake and Frank Ocean. There have been altercations with multiple fans and it seems even strangers on the street and service staff.
2013 was an incredibly chaotic year for Chris Brown. The year kicked off with irregularities in his community service paperwork. Allegedly Brown received credit for completing hours in the United States while traveling out of the country.
In October of this same year Chris spiraled completely out of control. A confrontation with a man outside of a Washington D.C. hotel would follow the singer for quite a while. Brown was charged with felonious assault but pleaded down to a misdemeanor and was sent to rehab to await sentencing. Addtionally, Chris Brown was thrown out of rehab before his 3-month stay was up due to violent behavior. From there he would be sent to an anger management specific rehab facility where he lasted a little bit longer, but was eventually thrown out for refusing a drug test and touching a female patient among other things.
Not much seems to have improved over recent years. The hip hop performer has found himself being sued for failing to provide adequate protection at a party. Everything came to head when the singer found himself in a standoff with police at his home in California. Brown was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
What’s Happening Now
After Brown posted a picture of his daughter with the monkey on social media, followers started to call the California Fish and Wildlife Department. Concerns started flooding in regarding the care of the monkey. After receiving so many calls officials began an official investigation.
A search warrant was issued and the monkey in question has been surrendered to authorities as evidence pending investigation. The monkey was taken to a vet to be checked out and is now residing at a primate facility. The R&B crooner was not home at the time but someone brought the monkey out in a cage.
Browns attorney, Mark Geragos, is rather annoyed by the entire ordeal. With all of Chris Browns troubles, this must be just another small problem he has to deal with. He has been quoted by TMZ as saying
“As I leave my office in Downtown L.A. and walk past people sleeping on the street on my way to defend people charged by the City Attorney with selling medical marijuana … now spending taxpayer money on investigating monkey business, this completes the circle on his absurdity”.
About The Monkey
The monkey in questions name is Fiji. Fiji is a capuchin monkey. Typically native to Central and South America, these monkeys are very commonly bread legally and illegally in the United States. They stay small, are incredibly smart, and you often see them with diapers and on leashes when out with their owners. They are typically trained to become a member of the family. Since breeders take the babies very young from their mothers so that they form a tight bond with their human owners. Oftentimes owners have their larger pointy teeth removed for safety reasons. Most of the common practices amongst breeders is very controversial amongst animal activists.
Rapping It Up
From fist fights and fraudulent community service hours and everything in between, it would seem this singer really is just Chris Brown the bad boy of hip hop. Furthermore, one would think with all of the legal trouble surrounding him, he would keep his nose clean. Especially on the little things like securing proper paperwork, but it seems as if Brown is incapable of even that much. Time will tell what the verdict will be and whether or not the performer will serve actual jail time over this latest mishap. Hang in there breezy.
What do you think about this investigation? Has this been blow out of proportion and will he ever serve a day in jail?
